* Forest industry economic review 2004 - 2005

Increasing demand, but overcapacity restricts price increases in 2005.

Market prospects for the wood industry are more positive than last year. Economic growth in export markets has resulted in increased demand for wood products and in greater export volumes for Finland. However, increased demand has not resulted in price increases because of excessive supply and a strong euro. Price developments of sawn timber are expected to remain modest also in the future, whereas a moderate increase of paper export prices is expected on the main export markets in Europe.
