*The forest-based sector started to set up a European Technology Platform.

With the official launch of the European Forest-Based Sector Technology Platform on the FBI Forum 2005 in Brussels on February 15th, the forest-based sector will show how innovation and technology transfer answer to its key challenges in the future.

• By 2030, the forest-based sector will play a key role in a sustainable European society.

• It will comprise a competitive, innovative and knowledge-based industry, fostering an extended use of renewable forest resources.

• It strives to ensure its ongoing societal contribution in the context of a bio-based, customer-driven and globally competitive European economy.

A Technology Platform, a tool under the 7th research framework programme, is a mechanism to bring together all interested stakeholders to develop a long-term vision to address specific challenges, create a coherent, dynamic research strategy to achieve that vision and steer the implementation of an action plan to deliver agreed programmes of activities and optimise the benefits for all parties.
