*Record investments by Swedish forest industry

The Swedish forest industry is investing heavily. The investments are expected to increase by as much as 60 percent in Sweden this year

1,300 million euro. That is what the pulp and paper industry is expected to invest this year, in Sweden alone. This represents an increase of 60 percent over last year – when investments of this industrial branch amounted to 800 million in 2004, according to official Swedish statistics.

This takes Sweden back to the record levels of 1996. If investments abroad are included, the amount reaches a new record level. For example, Holmen are making a major investment in Spain – a new newsprint machine based on recycled fibre is to be finished next year, at a cost of 300 million euro.
